The Blackhawk Nation Fall Campout at Camp Anokijig in Plymouth, WI

The Blackhawk Nation Fall Campout at Camp Anokijig in Plymouth, WI was a huge success. Action packed with more than 40 individual awards, events, and weekend long games. Pawnee Tribe won the coveted Anokijig Cup bringing in the most points over five events (Egg on Spoon Relay, Water Balloon Toss, Canoe Race, Giant Jenga, and Potato Sack Race), while the Howling Coyotes finished in second and Fox Tribe in third. Howling Coyotes won the Chief Choice Award for being the tribe that most exudes the goals and AIMS of the Princess program. Howling Coyotes had the most tribe attendees, the most new members attending, the most Hylushka’s, two former Nation Chief’s in attendance and new tribe Chief Angelo Matire and the Coyote Tribe planned and organized the entire Fall Campout. Fox Tribe left camp with the Golden Arrow and all the good luck that goes with it, while the Howling Coyotes left with Josephine and all her bad luck until the next campout. Cherokee Tribe took home the slow poke award, which was tough to accept given the daughters were there early, and while most of their tribe was early to the Noonway Flag Lowering ceremony, they had a group of Dads that were last to arrive.

Saturday evening will surely go down as the highlight of the weekend. Our Aims Walk to the council fire stretched along the beautiful shoreline of Little Elkhart Lake, bringing all who made the walk to the Knighthood Campfire Ring where a glorious Fire Ceremony was held. Before the Fire Ceremony a New Blackhawk Nation Chief ritual was held. Outgoing Nation Chief Stands with no Trousers Tyson Lagoni initiated the transfer of power to the new Blackhawk Nation Chief Big Leopard Andrew Haley. The Blackhawk Nation Fire Ceremony followed, whereby we heard the calling of the Great Spirit, the wisdom of the four winds, and inducted 23 new Dads and Daughters into the Blackhawk Nation! What a beautiful event with many “SIGNS” of approval from the Great Spirit!!

Following our Glorious Council Fire, Dads and Daughters returned to campsites to put their Halloween costumes on and attend the outdoor Halloween Dance Party. 1st through 3rd place awards were given for best daughter costumes grades K-3rd and for daughter’s 4th grade and older. Best Dad and Daughter Costumes were also awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes were also awarded to Hoola Hoop contest winners in both the K-3rd grade levels and for girls in 4th grade and older.

Aside from all the planned games, events, and activities Camp Anokijig has so much to offer our great Blackhawk Nation members attending. Horseback riding, BB Gun shooting range, archery range, miniature golf, arts and crafts, and trading post are just a few of the favorites when the girls aren’t enjoying the nature walks and water activities along the beautiful lake. The Fall Campout at Anokijig kicks off the 2025-26 hunting season and it never disappoints. The Blackhawk Nation is made up of five wonderful tribes: Cherokee, Fox, Howling Coyotes, Pawnee, and Sun. But we are ONE BLACKHAWK NATION!!
